Be Clear On Your WHY | Business Journal Exercise

Starting and running a health business takes time, patience, hard work and a lot of ups/downs along the way… But it is worth it!

One thing that has kept me going throughout the years is my personal WHY.

Successful business owners are always very clear on their WHY. As soon as I speak to anyone who is thriving in their work, they will bring up WHY they do what they do and what inspires them to continue. Sometimes, we can get so caught up in the other important factors of how-to’s that we forget to get the foundations super solid first. Our WHY will help us connect the pieces.

Clarity on your WHY will remind you of your purpose. It will keep you focused and clear on the reason you decided to launch in the first place. I’m a firm believer that this is a strong part of our business plan. This is one of the first things I did and I would recommend it to anyone.

I love combining holistic tools with business – Over time, this might change or evolve. If you already have a business, this is probably something you have already experienced – But the important thing is to keep it clear. Here is one way that you can track and declare your WHY.

BUSINESS JOURNAL EXERCISE

This is something I love to dive into with my clients at the early stages of business building and ideas. This can also be done when we feel we need to make changes in our business. Your why will act as a foundation and remind you along the way, especially when things get tough or seem like you are not getting anywhere.

⒈ A VISUALIZATION TO TRY FIRST – Sit in a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed. Close your eyes and take a moment to imagine that you have fast-forwarded time to a place where you are doing exactly what you want in your business.

Examples: You are opening your emails and seeing that you have new client bookings. Maybe you can see that your coaching package has reached your target number.

Imagine anything you like that you would like to reach one day. Build the picture, feel the emotions, and enjoy the sensations! Stay here for as long as you like.

⒉ WRITE DOWN WHAT CAME UP FOR YOU – When you finish your visualization, take your journal and write down what you visualized and how you felt. You can also write down if any resistances or blocks came up – and why you think you felt this way. Explore.

⒊ FOCUS ON THESE REFLECTION QUESTIONS & AFFIRMATIONS: This might help you gain clarity on your personal WHY for starting your health business.

  • If I reached the point where I achieve this (my visualization) in my business, what would it mean to me?
  • My first/next target for my income is…
  • Do I have any abundance and money mindset blocks that I need to work through?
  • Who/what inspired me at the beginning of my business?
  • How can I be more of a service to my clients?
  • What do I truly feel passionate about in this business?

⒋ WRITE DOWN YOUR MISSION STATEMENT – After exploring through visualization and journal writing, bring this all together as a short affirmation. This will be your heart-centred WHY affirmation. Write this down and pin it somewhere where you work each day on your business.

This could be a regular practice that you do over a space of a few days to slowly bring awareness as to what is coming up within. I often recommend doing visualization and journal exercises for at least 1 week to see if there are any changes and to observe how it evolves within us.
